Vinces' Page

Vince Bartlebaugh, Blue Shades band member from 2003 thru 2011

Vince was a dynamic force in Blue Shades from when he came onboard until he was forced to leave due to an accident in 2011. Accordingly, we thought it appropriate to include this information. We made great strides with the band during his time and it would not have been the same band without him.
Vince started by learning to play guitar at the early age of nine. He then moved on to the five string Banjo in 1961. Since then he has become a virtual master of the five string Banjo and a seasoned musician. In addition to his work with the "five", he has composed several numbers, two of which are featured on the bands second CD project titled Chasing Dreams. "Catawba", an instrumental and "The Room In My Mind", a vocal number. He has others just waiting to be recorded and has re-written versions, or added verses and breaks, to many well known standards. Vince also works as a private instructor. Vince was a founding member of the band "TRUE BLUEGRASS", along with the late Bob Thompson. It was in this band that he mentored current Blue Shades guitarist Brad Foust. True Bluegrass was well known and active in southwest Pennsylvania in the late 1960's through the early 80's, and produced one recording project self titled "True Bluegrass". Due to popular demand it has been re-issued many times, and is available from Blue Shades.

During the winter of 2010/2011 Vince injured a finger on his left hand, and he feels it has affected his ability to perform to the high standard to which he is accustomed. It was his decision in 2011 to step down as Blue Shades banjoist. It is a tough loss for sure. Vince is well known and respected in bluegrass music, and has been an influence on many of our regions great banjo players, of which we are blessed. We wish him the very best.
