The summer of 2011 marked the tenth anniversary for the band. It also marked the return of original founding band member John Dively Jr. on banjo and vocals. After the band's founding in 2001, John performed with the band through 2002 and is featured on their first recording project "So Happy Together". It seems that John was so "happy" that he just couldn't take it any longer and decided to leave after the 2002 season. The split was of course amicable. Fortunately we didn't have to look very far for a replacement. Band guitarist and vocalist Brad Foust had a long history and great friendship with "banjoist extraordinaire" Vince Bartlebaugh, from the Fairmont, West Virginia area, so he knew just where to look. Vince's skills were needed and he readily accepted the offer to join Blue Shades. Vince's talents are featured on the band's second recording project, "Chasing Dreams" the title cut written by band bassist and vocalist Troy Wigfield. Since it's formation, Blue Shades band members have gained even more experience by performing at many of the tristate regions premier bluegrass festivals and other large well known events. The band is well known by the followers of this great American music form. Blue Shades has grown into a smooth, experienced and confident group of musicians, performing as their name implies, all types of bluegrass music ranging from the "high lonesome" sound of traditional to the more modern versions of today's "progressive" sounds and of course featuring the always popular Bluegrass Gospel numbers. Also popular among Blue Shades followers are their versions of our nation's patriotic ballads and instrumentals. So whether it is a Saturday night festival, Sunday morning service, concert at a community fair, or anything in-between, Blue Shades can fill the need with your favorite style of Bluegrass music. That is, if you like Bluegrass music.
